The front of the Shubert Theater

Be sure to check out the diverse offering of events at the Shubert!

There are tons of great events for those living in our Seramonte community of Hamden rental apartments. One of our favorite local venues, the Shubert Theater, is just one place to enjoy all kinds of fun shows, from musicals to rock concerts and more. Coming up in February, there are a few can’t-miss events.

In early February, the Yale Opera is putting on a production of Mozart’s classic opera, Cosi Fan Tutti. The opera is presented in full Italian with English subtitles so that viewers can enjoy both the glorious singing and the engaging story. You can enjoy this from Feb. 10 through 12, and discounted student tickets are available. Read More→

Make sure you are ready for the worst winter weather

Don't get caught in rough winter weather without a plan and supplies

While you’re out shopping for gifts for yourself and others around Hamden rental apartments, it’s also a great time to make sure you have everything for a winter readiness kit. While we do everything we can at Seramonte to make sure life for you is safe and comfortable, we all have to do our part to make sure we’re prepared for the winters that can sometimes be harsh.

The best way to do this is by assembling a winter weather kit. Start this out with a large plastic container that can hold everything and either has wheels or handles for transportation. Inside, we need to put:

Lights: flashlights, long-lasting candles and lanterns. Make sure to include batteries for the flashlights, and water-proof matches for the candles and/or lanterns.

Warmth: Blankets, hand warmers, extra gloves and socks. An emergency or space blanket is small, light, and waterproof. Hand warmers are also great, as they are small, easy to use and fast-acting. Read More→

BINGO in Hamden

Posted by: | Comments (0)

bingo_1The name “Bingo” as we know it today is a form of lottery and a direct descendant of the National Lottery started in Italy in 1530. It is reported that in 1778 the French captured the lottery fantasy adding chips to the game as part of the playing equipment.

In the 1800’s, educational lotto games became popular including a German lotto game designed to teach children multiplication tables, spelling and history. Even today lotto still holds its own in the toy and game market. The game gives kids in the 3 to 6 year old range a bit of fun while teaching them to recognize numbers and count.

Bingo is a fun and entertaining, and it’s a game that children and adults alike can enjoy in a group setting. If you are a Bingo enthusiast, you can use the internet to look for community centers, churches or senior facilities in your area that offer games and tournaments.

If you live in the Branford or Hamden rental apartments at Montoya or Seramonte, some of the places where Bingo is offered are: Sleeping Giant Bingo in Hamden, Knights of Columbus in Guilford and Sons & Daughters of Italy in Wallingford. Read More→

MOVING 101

Posted by: | Comments (0)

moving-boxesFor the exceptional few of us who may be minimalists, moving is not only a serious task; but it’s a time-consuming and expensive one. Something to consider is whether you plan to tackle it yourself or hire a moving company to do the job. One way to start your decision-making process is to consider the distance, the amount of personal belongings that need to be transported, the amount of time you may have to take from work if you do-it-yourself, and even the season when you plan to make the move to your new Hamden apartments. You can itemize the expenses, take all factors into consideration, and determine whether you personally have the wherewithal to take on the job. Of course, it’s always great to have friends who are able to assist and provide moral support, but after everything is taken into consideration, you may find justification for the cost of hiring a mover.

On the other hand, if you are a confirmed do-it-yourselfer, roll up your sleeves and dig in. The best way to start is to plan ahead, leaving adequate time to fulfill the lease terms in your current apartment, and getting yourself and your belongings to your new apartment without a glitch. The ideal scenario is moving within the same town on a perfect spring day; giving you time and energy to start loading your rented track at the crack of dawn, and delivering its contents to your destination mid or late afternoon. Time is running out to take advantage of the amazing Hamden Farmers market. Now more than ever, it is extremely important to support local businesses and the local economy. One of the best ways to do this is to attend the weekly farmer’s market in Hamden and purchase produce from local farmers. Of course, there is much more than just beautiful fruits and vegetables at the farmer’s market – there are handmade crafts, baked goods, fresh cut flowers and more.

In addition to buying your weekly groceries and one-of-a-kind nick knacks, the market is a great way to get out in the town and mingle with other residents. It’s the events like the market that promote a strong sense of community and make Hamden such a fantastic place to live. For those living in the Hamden apartments, Seramonte, it definitely won’t hurt to attend community events and immerse yourself in the local scene.

deal or no deal in North HavenSomething really interesting is coming to the Connecticut Irish Festival this year. Howie Mandell’s hit game show “Deal or No Deal” is hosting a casting call on Saturday, June 27th from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the North Haven festival. Out of all of the get-rich-quick schemes you may have tried in the past, this could be the most lucrative. If chosen to be a contestant, you actually have the opportunity to win $1 million! In this economy who couldn’t stand to win a nice lump sum of money?

What’s the trick on getting cast? According to festival organizers, the show wants “energetic, charismatic and outgoing individuals who can think quickly on their feet.” Basically, show the produces that you are someone American can fall in love with and root for and you’re in. You must be 18 years or older.

If you weren’t already planning to go to the Irish Festival in North Haven, I hope this changes your mind. Read More→

theatre_ivanovThis week may be the first week of summer, but it is the last week for the International Festival of Arts & Ideas. Now in its 14th year, this exceptional two week festival has solidified its position as one of the world’s most significant art festivals. The Festival showcases hundreds of international events from over 75 countries with an impressive scale and scope unmatched in the Northeast. For many New Haven locals, the International Festival of Arts & Ideas is their favorite event of the year. While the international arts festival ends on Saturday, June 27th, there are still many can’t miss performances for you to catch this week, many of which are free of charge.

One notable event is the US Premier of Ivanov, which is taking place on Wednesday, June 24th at 8 p.m. The play will bring out an entire spectrum of emotions as it layers comedy and tragedy as it explores the human response to moral, economic and political upheaval. Many times this extraordinary production is considered the “Russian Hamlet,” making it one of the can’t-miss opportunities of the festival. Parental advisory – Ivanov contains partial nudity.

This week also hosts a myriad of walking tours in which you can get an in-depth history of many aspects of New Haven, from the Yale school of architecture to the Marsh Botanical Gardens. Read More→
