Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It gives you the energy and fuel to kick off the day and is the right formula for a productive morning. Unfortunately, it is also the most commonly skipped meal as people prefer to get an extra 15 minutes of sleep and are rushing out the door without time to prepare or consume a hearty breakfast in order to make it to work, school or other morning appointments on time. Posted by: | CommentsSome people wait all year long to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Throughout cities across the nation, you can get green beer and traditional Irish cuisine on March 17th. Each city is completely different and may just have a few local bars celebrating the holiday or they can go as far as Savannah, GA and turn the entire city into a celebration including the rivers, which are dyed green.
Well, New Haven may not go so far as to dye our waterways, but we do go way above and beyond just a few parties at local bars. In fact, the New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade is Connecticut’s largest single-day spectator event, surpassing the UBS holiday parade. In 2010, the parade is scheduled for Sunday, March 14th beginning at 1:00 p.m. in downtown New Haven.

Looking for ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Hamden this year? We’ve got some great suggestions! First, you may want to impress your valentine with a bit of history on this holiday: One legend contends that St. Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men - his crop of potential soldiers - Valentine defied this unjust decree and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. It is believed that while Valentine was in prison, he fell in love with a young girl - who may have been his jailer’s daughter - who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed ‘From your Valentine,’ an expression that is still in use today.
