Branford Connecticut Networking Opportunities

Can you ever really do enough networking? In today’s market it is more important than ever to use all the connections you have, as well as make new ones. There is a great opportunity later this month to participate in a Business After Hours event through the Branford Chamber of Commerce. It will take place on August 31, 2010 from 5:30- 7:30 p.m. at Nellie Green’s Restaurant in Branford, CT. If you’re looking to network and meet new business professionals in the community then you will not want to miss this event.
In addition to great networking, Nellie Green’s serves delicious food and features beautiful views of the Branford River. The event is just around the corner from Montoya Apartments in Branford so residents interested in networking are encouraged to attend. The price to attend the event is $12 for pre-registered Branford Chamber members, $15 at the door for members, and $20 for non-members. Nellie Green’s Restaurant is located at 50 Maple Street in Branford.
Stamford Pops in the Park Festival

Purdue Pharma presents Pops in the Park in Columbus Park on Wednesdays in July. Performances will take place on the Heineken Stage throughout the month with Neil Sedaka kicking it off on July 7 at 6:30 p.m. The schedule of performances is:

Fundraising for Fireworks in New Haven

It would just be plain un-American to skip fireworks on July 4th. Luckily the New Haven fireworks show will go on despite being cut from the city’s budget this year. The July 4th fireworks will still be a huge spectacular due to fund-raising efforts and sponsors, such as Ikea who donated $20,000. You can participate in the fund raising efforts on June 18 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the “New Haven Fireworks Fundraiser” at Terminal 110.
Tickets are $25 and the fundraiser will provide a taste of what the BIG celebration on the 4th will be like, as it includes a live band, beer, wine, food, and a dueling piano show. Come to the Hamden Memorial Day Parade

While many are flocking to the beach to sit on the sandy shores of Connecticut for the Memorial Day weekend, there are many who have chosen to conserve cash and gas and stay in Hamden this weekend. If you’re one of the many who is trying to save a little green this holiday weekend, then you might want to consider attending the Hamden Memorial Day Parade. This year marks the 74th anniversary of the event which is set to take place May 31.
The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Hamden High School and will continue north along Dixwell Avenue to the Memorial Town Hall. Several local organizations as well as members of our armed services will be marching in the parade. Following the parade there will be a wreath ceremony in front of Hamden Middle School at the Veterans Memorial.
The Town of Hamden is currently looking for convertibles to use in the parade and would be honored if any members of our Armed Forces may want to participate and march. Read More→

Popcorn, peanuts, death defying tricks and of course, clowns! This could only mean one thing, ehe Big Apple Circus is back! The circus will be returning to downtown Stamford between July 9- 25 at the Mill River Park.
This years show is “Bello is Back!” Bello Nock, named “America’s Best Clown” by Time magazine, returns to the Big Apple Circus after being gone for nine seasons. Known for his gravity-defying hair, trademark tuxedo and white gloves and spats, Bello is certain to amaze and delight all those in attendance. Branford Shred and Recycle Day is May 21

The Branford Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a Shred & Recycle Day on Friday, May 21, from 9 a.m. -2 p.m. at the Branford Chamber of Commerce located across from Tommy Sullivan’s at 239 N. Main Street.
This is a great time for residents of Montoya Apartments in Branford to get rid of some unneeded documents and clothes while helping to be clean & green. Catch Beauty and the Beast at the Shubert Theater

Everything you love about the animated film Beauty and the Beast will come to life on stage, including musical numbers that were not in the film. Audiences will be enchanted by the the colorful, vibrant sets and costumes as well as the choreography and overall romance of the story. Unfortunately, you only have five chances to catch the musical as it runs at the Shubert Theater from May 14th through 16th.
The Found Footage Festival Returns on May 2nd

The historic Avon Theatre in Stamford, Connecticut is bringing back The Found Footage Festival on Sunday, May 2nd at 8PM. This popular event features a hilarious look at video footage found at garage sales, thrift stores, warehouses, and dumpsters throughout the country. Hosted by curators Pickett and Prueher, attendees will get a unique perspective of some forgotten movies and found treasures.
Some of the movies that will be showcased in the 2010 program include:
- A collection of the worst Saturday morning cartoons on VHS
- Highlights from a 1987 video dating reel found by David Cross
- A home movie taken at a 1985 heavy metal festival outside Washington, D.C.

The 2010 Connecticut Film Festival Kicks off on May 4th

Next week, May 4 through 8, 2010, Danbury, CT will host the Connecticut Film Festival. As a movie buff or someone wanting to break into the movie industry, this is a can’t-miss event. Over 100 films will be competing in 16 different categories to earn the coveted honors, awards and recognition, and many of the films submitted are the original works of Connecticut residents.
Of course, if you are more on the technical side and want to be immersed in the movie industry instead of only entertained by it, then why not participate in some of the interactive or educational events? The film festival is home to a four day workshop titled “Writer’s unblocked,” which gives you the opportunity to get script writing advice from trained actors and professional screenwriting instructors.
In addition to all of the film-centered events, there are also 80 different musical performances taking place throughout the week and seminars devoted to digital media. Read More→
