Posted by: Sandra | Comments (0)

Arts & Crafts on BedfordIt’s going to be that time of year again soon, when all those interesting-looking sculptures start popping up around downtown Stamford! Plans are well under way for this year’s sculpture exhibit. Similar to the “Cow Parade,” “Art-O-Mobiles” and “Stamford Safari” events, this year’s “Reigning Cats and Dogs” event is an interactive sculpture exhibit that takes place all around downtown Stamford. For the past few years, the Stamford Downtown Special Services District has issued a call to local artists in the area for participation in the event, and this year is no different.

The Stamford Downtown Special Services District has invited any and all local artists to submit their designs for jury and possible selection in this year’s exhibit, which will take place from June – August, 2010. Local artists that wish to participate will, through this juried selection process, paint, sculpt and decorate fiberglass cats and dogs. Read More→

Valentine's DayLooking for ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day in Hamden this year? We’ve got some great suggestions! First, you may want to impress your valentine with a bit of history on this holiday: One legend contends that St. Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II outlawed marriage for young men - his crop of potential soldiers - Valentine defied this unjust decree and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death. It is believed that while Valentine was in prison, he fell in love with a young girl - who may have been his jailer’s daughter - who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter, which he signed ‘From your Valentine,’ an expression that is still in use today.
