Enjoy New England’s Fall Foliage from the Water
By
Don’t miss the opportunity to see Connecticut’s fall foliage like no other way possible - from the water. Not only do you get to see Connecticut’s trees blazing with bright yellows, oranges and reds, but you can simultaneously enjoy the beauty reflecting on the water. There is no other view like it and one way to see it - the Maritime Aquarium Fall Foliage Study Cruises.
These exciting outings reveal what is, to many, a surprising and amazing diversity of marine life just off our shores in Long Island Sound. Aquarium educators onboard put participants to work in collecting and examining animals from all levels of the water column: tiny wriggly plankton gathered at the surface (and viewed with a videomicroscope), little crabs and worms grabbed from the muddy bottom, and an always-unique variety of fish, crabs, lobsters and surprises brought up in the Oceanic’s trawl net.
Educators also will talk about how the Sound’s marine life prepare for winter: some will migrate away, some will bury into the bottom and some will endure.
The fall season of cruises will depart at 1 p.m. Saturdays in September & October. Tickets for a Fall Foliage Study Cruise are $20.50, or $18.50 for Aquarium members. Maritime Aquarium study cruises are good for ages 8 and older. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
The cruises depart from the dock outside the Aquarium’s IMAX movie theater. Space on the research vessel Oceanic is limited so advance reservations are strongly recommended. Walk-up tickets will be sold, space permitting.
The Maritime Aquarium is one of the most popular attractions in Norwalk. They are consistently hosting education events where participants can learn more about the world under the sea. Plus, it is a beautiful aquarium with a peaceful environment that is a perfect way to spend any free day. Those that live in Morningside Gardens can easily spend a free day at the aquarium since they live so close to it. The South Norwalk apartments offer residents an impeccable location close to Long Island Sound, South Norwalk and I-95.
