Fresh Eating in Norwalk
By
There are several creative ways you can keep cool in the summer heat. One of the ways is to eat lighter, smaller but more frequent meals. It helps keep your blood sugar stable and your body creates less heat with the smaller meals. But changing our cooking and eating habits isn’t easy, and coming up with new recipes can be daunting. Having easy access to a wide variety of fresh foods near your Stamford apartment rentals makes it easier. For instance, the residents of our Morningside gardens Apartments in Norwalk are centrally located to several local farms and farmers markets, as well as the two nearby Whole Foods Markets.
Fodor Farm at 322 Flax Hill Road in South Norwalk is the closest to Morningside Gardens at about 1.6 miles. The market offers an array of Connecticut’s Farms and Local Vendors who sell only Connecticut Grown products. The Norwalk Farmers’ Market on North Water Street parking lot at The Maritime Aquarium on Wednesdays from noon to 6 p.m. is another option. Buying local from local farmers benefits both you, the consumer, with fresher, in-season produce and supports local small businesses.
For a wider selection and the opportunity to sample produce and foods from outside our area, both the Whole Foods Store on Westport Avenue in Norwalk and the newer on Post Road just south of Norwalk in Darien may be more to your liking.
Salads, fresh corn & tomatoes and fresh herbs are perennial favorites in my house. You can try something as simple as grilled corn on the cob, tomato salad (sliced tomatoes & sweet onions drenched in red vinaigrette and served cold). Something new you may want to try: cold fruit chunks like watermelon or pineapple taste wonderful dipped in a little balsamic vinegar. Last night’s leftover chicken can be chopped up and tossed into a green salad, add some cooked kernel corn and chopped tomatoes for a light but satisfying summer dinner that helps keep you and your kitchen, coo-oo-oool!
