The Connecticut Irish Festival Kicks off on Saturday

By

Connecticut Irish FestivalNorth Haven’s annual Irish Festival is going on this weekend, June 27th and June 28th. It’s two days full of cultural events fun for the entire family.

The weekend begins on Saturday morning with the annual Irish Festival 5K road race. Whether you are an avid runner or one that prefers to walk, the Connecticut Irish Festival 5K is an invigorating way to kick off the weekend’s festivities. The race begins at 11:00 a.m. at the North Haven Fair Grounds and proceeds benefit the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association. There are many events other than the 5K to suit all types of athletic abilities and ages: .35 mile Fun Run, .7 mile Fun Run and a 2 mile fitness walk (you’ll want to check the Web site for these start times because they are different than the 5K). What’s the motivation to participate in the race? Well, other than the obvious facts that it benefits a great cause and is a great way to get some exercise in for the day, you get free admission into the Irish Festival and the sheep herding demonstration with border collies, which is at noon.

Those that choose not to participate in the 5K will have to pay $12 for admittance into the Irish Festival. Throughout Saturday and Sunday, you’ll be serenaded with authentic Irish music while you peruse all of the cultural exhibits. There will be sheep sheering and sheep herding, a petting zoo, pony rides, children’s games, Irish shopping, craft village and more.

You can also participate in a raffle to win a Mediterranean Cruise for two, a Nintendo Wii and other great prizes.

North Haven is less than 10 minutes from the Hamden, CT apartments Seramonte. Offering close proximity to festive events like this one is only one of the things that makes Seramonte such an extraordinary community to call home.
