Celebrate Earth Day 2010 at the Yale Peabody Museum

By

BeesEarth Day 2010, which is set for Thursday, April 22nd, is a special day indeed. Not only is it the 40th anniversary of the holiday, but it is also the 200th anniversary of the birth of L.L. Langstroth. Don’t feel bad if you don’t know who L.L. Langstroth is, that isn’t exactly a household name, but he is considered the “Father of American Beekeeping.” Thus, the Yale Peabody Museum is hosting a bee-themed Earth Day celebration next Thursday, April 22nd, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.

This is an event that is fun for the whole family, and the best part of all is that it is free to attend. You’ll learn how bees are crucial to our environment – not only do they produce honey, but they are a crucial aspect of the pollination process. Unfortunately, numbers in the US and in Europe are dwindling, which is only one of the many reasons we need to care for the environment around us.

By attending the Yale Peabody Earth Day celebration, you will get to see live bees and learn about beekeeping and pollination. In addition, you’ll get to plant seeds and learn how to nurture and care for them at home. Different local organizations will be on hand to tell you about some simple things you can do on a daily basis to lead a more green lifestyle.

Even though you may be a resident at one of the New Haven apartments Seramonte or Montoya, it doesn’t mean that you can’t change things in your home environment to help the environment. You could plant a container garden, purchase ENERGY Star light bulbs, use natural or green cleaning supplies and more. There really are countless ways to reduce your carbon footprint, and these are the types of things you’ll learn at the Yale Peabody Earth Day event. See you there!
